Kids Chat
This group is for 5-7 year-old children who may have speech and/or language delays. A great way to facilitate speech-language development is to practice with peers.

Your child may benefit if he/she:

  • Is five to seven years old and does not use as many words as other children their age
  • Has trouble communicating his/her thoughts and ideas
  • Leaves off sounds in words and/or changes sounds
  • Gets frustrated when not understood by family and peers
  • Has weak pre-literacy skills

Program includes:

  • A new theme each session with specific vocabulary/sound awareness activities and take-home materials
  • How to build language-learning opportunities into everyday activities and routines
  • Information about different ways to teach your child how to use other ways to communicate (i.e. using pictures and gestures/signs)
  • How to turn books into fun and interactive language-learning time and how to teach your child essential early literacy skills

Choose morning or afternoon programs.

8 morning classes 10:00 – 11:00am every 2nd Saturday beginning September 8th.

8 afternoon classes 1:00 – 2:00pm every 2nd Saturday beginning September 8th.

6 week Early Communication Program – 18 months – 3 years
Dates; Offered to families year around. Recommended the 6 sessions are completed in a three month period.

This program is for children who are 18 months to 3 years of age who have an expressive language delay.

Your child may benefit if he/she:

  • By 18 months, has an expressive vocabulary of less than 25 words
  • By 24 months, has an expressive vocabulary of less than 50 words
  • Your child has a good understanding of language but has difficulty expressing themself
  • Has weak social and play skills

Program includes:

  • 6 individual therapy sessions with an SLP, including parent coaching
  • Personalized goal setting for your child (at the start and end of the program)
  • Hands-on strategies (get down, play like a child, create opportunities for your child to communicate etc.)
  • Information about different ways to teach your child how to use other ways to communicate (i.e. using pictures and gestures/signs).
Color My Conversation
Colour My Conversation is an engaging, multi-sensory teaching program to help guide children through the conversation flow including the greeting, bringing up and changing topics, and how to close the conversation. Colour My Conversation incorporates visual, auditory, tactile, and moto-kinesthetic strategies to teach social language and conversational concepts.

Your child may benefit if he/she:

  • Has troubles initiating conversations and social interactions
  • Is socially anxious or awkward
  • Has difficulty understanding paralinguistic skills (tone of voice, listening skills)
  • Has difficutly understanding the difference between literal and figurtaive language
  • Asperger syndrome / High Functioning Autism
  • LLD
  • Is language delayed
  • ADHD
  • Fluency or articulation struggles
  • Has a mild intellectual disability

Program includes:

  • Initial no charge consultation
  • 11 weeks in total, including 10 sessions and 1 outing
  • Engaging interactive activities including movement, song, rhyme, color coding, signing/gestures, beadwork, artwork, pictures/photographs, line drawings, worksheets, role plays, interactive game activities and field assignments to aid children in starting and maintaining a conversation.
